How do you remove a border from a wall so that you can re-paint the wall?

We have a painted wall with a stuck on border that's about 40 feet long. I want to re-paint, how can I remove it? Is there a way to remove it without buying anything expecially?How do you remove a border from a wall so that you can re-paint the wall?
you can go to Walmart or any home improvement store %26amp; get a wallpaper removal product that you put on with a brush %26amp; it dissloves the paste so you can easily remove the border. It is the easiest way, since it dissolves the old paste, It's not expensive %26amp; will save you time. Because if you dont dissolve that old paste it will show up through your fresh paint. It works really well! You'll be glad you used it.

Peel off the border itself. It will leave a mess behind it, but using a soaking wet cloth, you can rub the glue part off. I like to use one of those scrubby poof things for the shower to scrub it. It gets the glue w/out pulling off the paint. It will just take a lot of water and hard work, but it's cheap and it will come off.
I recently removed a wallpaper border from my dining room walls using a wallpaper tiger, a spray bottle filled with hot water %26amp; fabric softener and a large spackle knife. The wallpaper tiger puts tiny holes in the border so when I sprayed it with the hot water and fabric softener mixture it thoroughly soaked the border. Then it was easy to use the spackle knife to scrape the border off. Once the border is off clean the wall really well to get any remaining glue off, and/or use primer before you paint. Good luck.
Use Windex. It's great at cutting the glue and cleaning the wall after ward to ready it for painting. We did a 16' by 25' room with full wallpaper this way, and painted afterward.





If it's paper, spray with Windex. It will soak in, cut the glue and you'll be able to scrape it off gently with a putty knife and/or one of those scrubby sponges someone else mentioned. If it's vinyl, pull the front off and the backing (paper and glue) will probably stay on the wall. Spray that with Windex and do the same as above. Once all the paper and glue is off, spray it all again and give it a good wipe down to clean the wall.
warm water %26amp; white vinigar in a spray bottle, spray the wall and let it soak in. then use a paint scraper and start scraping it off the walls. you might have a top coat which is vinyl, if you do when that is off repeat the process to get the second coat off.
Spray it with HOT water until the wallpaper is very wet. Use a drywall knife (or other broad thin flat object) to scrape it off. The water will need to completely penetrate the paper and start disolving the glue -- so continuously keep it wet for 15 to 20 minutes before trying to remove it. Once it is wet enough it should start almost falling off with little encouragement from you. After the paper is removed be sure to thoroughly scrub the wall where it was adhered -- if any glue remains (often you can't see it) it will cause the paint to crack.

you can use a product called ';Diff';, it removes wallpaper. you can get it at walmart or home depot
If it's a wallpaper like border spray it with H20 and let it sit for a while, there is a cheap product you can get at the hardware store that will help you with that problem PLUS alot of elbow grease
It depends on how the border was applied. When I first moved in to my apartment there was a hideous border in the bedroom. So I grabbed one piece and pulled it to find it was stuck on with a simple adhesive. So it just peeled right off. Try it.
If the border is vinyl, it should strip off easily. If it is paper, it needs to be soaked with hot water using a sponge or terry cloth and then removed (sometimes in layers). To remove any residue from the border, rub it with dry terry cloth. Good luck - 40 feet isn't too awfully bad to remove.
The one product you have to buy is a wallpaper scoring tool (see link below). Score your border. In a spray bottle mix 1/2 cup water to 1/2 cup fabric softner. Saturate your border and allow time to soak in. Wipe any of the mixture that runs down the walls. Take a putty knife and work the wallpaper loose.
