I have aluminum siding in my yard I can't replace and I want to paint it.I want to know if I can spray paint aluminum siding and what can I clean it with?

painting it is not a problem, you just have to make sure you do all the prep or it will look really bad, and wont last a year.


thing about aluminium is it's good with rust, but dont think that meens it wont, first things first, get sanding down any rust you find, rust on aluminium looks different from normal it more like a tarnish dark metalic color. so get riid of it if you can.


next get a scotch pad or wire wool, scratch the surface to give it a good key, something for the paint to hold on to.


if you want at this point you can prevent rust coming back anytime soon using etch and alodine, this is easy to do, you just spray on the etch and rub down with a scotch pad, opening the pours in the metal, then spray on the alodine nice and even, the use a power washer to rince. once thats done clean it well, very well, use white spirit or m.e.k. then tack cloth it, and undercoat it, leave to dry over night.


next day get out of bed, wipe your eyes, scratch your butt and back to work! it will need a light sand again over the whole surface again giving it a good key to hold the paint.


now clean it like you love it! you want to get rid of as much dust and particals as you can. tack cloth again and paint.


give it 3 coats, leaving 15mins to set between coats, when it's not quite dry and still nice and tacky give it another coat.


if you want the job to look real nice use a spray gun for all painting and undercoating.


cleaning is easy, get some surgar soap from your local hardware store or diy store, and spray it on, scrub, wipe and rince.

Clean the surface with petrol or kerosene. If you can use alcohol(methanol or propanol) use it for cleaning. Make the surface dry and then paint it with the paint of your choice. Plastic emulsion or epoxy will give a good finish and looks.





Generally oil paints do not give a good luck on aluminium fittings.
