How long do you wait after you paint the inside of your house for the baby to come back home?
I'm going to paint every room while my 4 yr old and 10 month old are away, but how long do I wait until they can come back? How long is safe? How long do you wait after you paint the inside of your house for the baby to come back home?
you'll have to wait until they come back with the paint. then you can begin painting.
a four year old is old enough to handle a paint brush. you can use the toddlers diapers to create spectacular effects. How long do you wait after you paint the inside of your house for the baby to come back home?
In all truthfulness any type of latex house paint is safe to paint with kids living in the home. Your kids would be perfectly safe standing in the room while you are painting. However, I can understand your hesitancy. If you are worried about the fumes then use low VOC paints such as Harmony (no voc's) and Duration Home (low voc's ) from Sherwin Williams. Most people can hardly tell I am painting when I use these in their home. Also, no matter what paint you use, if possible have ventilation (fans and open windows work great) to disperse any VOC's and fumes much quicker. Your house will be perfectly safe within several hours (wait 24 hours if you want to be really safe.
Good luck and happy painting!
PS - feel free to visit my site at http://thepaintprofessional.com/ to ask any other specific questions or to get helpful (time saving and money saving) painting tips!
Hopefully you use a low or no VOC paint. A couple of hours is usually sufficient, but if you could do 24 hours would be better, in case you had a few thick still wet areas. You know kids, the one spot in the house and they will find it.

Can I use a high heat spray paint to rehab the grates on my gas cook top?
My grates are looking a little worn, and repeated scrubbing of the surface has taken off some of the black paint. A set of new grates costs over $200. Can I just use a high heat spray paint (like those formulated for grills) to make them look new again? Thanks. Can I use a high heat spray paint to rehab the grates on my gas cook top?
That should work. Just make sure you have every last speck of grease removed, or the paint won't stick. Can I use a high heat spray paint to rehab the grates on my gas cook top?
yes, you can use high heat paint, just make sure it's for grille's.. scrape and sand degrease before you prime and paint.

How can I fix and/or repairthe paint on my walls?
started to prime a room i'm about to paint. the existing paint aborbed the primer like a dry sponge. but now the existing paint and the moist new primer is now easy to peal off the wall right down to the dry wall. What do I need to do so I can prime and paint this room. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.How can I fix and/or repairthe paint on my walls?
Had this same problem. you need to strip (scrape, etc.) the old pain off. Otherwise, the new paint has nothing to grip onto.
Rough up the subsurface before repainting. Prime again with a ';gripper'; primer.
Good luck. How can I fix and/or repairthe paint on my walls?

You have run into a condition that I have not seen for many years, and this may not even be the same issue at that, but lets see if I can help. First of all some questions and some suggestions:
1. You did not say how old the home was, nor what part of the country you were from, nor did yoiu identify if these rooms were a part of the orginal new construction, - or of a later addition or remodeling.. But, since we are dealing with drywall here rather than Lath %26amp; plaster I will assume that the house was built after 1965.
2 .I assume you are using a latex, (water based) primer. Was there evidence of a sealer of anykind on the wall - perhaps an orangy/yellowish brown stained sort of presentation - almost looked like water damage? If there is, and you have and atomizer to spray a mist of water on the wall do so the water should cling to the wall and then run down the wall face. What you may be lookng at is the residue of an old beetle wing varnish/ sealer. Since for those who could afford it - wall paper was very much in vogue for the next 40 years.
This is old school stuff. One of the preps for hanging wall paper from the 30's - early 50's in some areas was to take wheat or flax flour and mix it with equal parts of beetle wing varnish, ( which had a a slightly golden patina to it ), and mineral spirits to cut the mix enough to make it thin enough to brush on the wall surface, the mineral spirits were fast drying and helped to set the wall prep quickly.
Bulk glues used at that time we generally made of the same flour base as the wall prep, plus glutins from boiled animal horns %26amp; hooves - similar in chemistry to - you got it - beetle wing %26amp; carapice varnish - That same hard durable liquid that was so excellent for finishing furniture %26amp; millwork, and was the forerunner of shellac, which was the forerunner of the polyurethanes and super acrylics we use today. We still use modern day formulations of shellac, and Marine Varnish to this very day
So how does all this help you? Well you problem is about the direct opposite of a problem that Plasterer's have to deal with on a lot of restoration projects - especialy schools build in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. They have to deal with, on occasion ';Hot spots'; in existing plaster walls and ceilings, these ';Hot spots'; are areas which are not necessarily delaminated, nor are they ';rotten'; it's just that the lime in the plaster is reacting with what ever moisture or material that comes into contact with it - chemically, and the chemically reaction produces heat - which sometimes forms blisters or flaking of the surface treatment, but usually you get what is called a ';dead spot'; on the wall, a place where the sheen disappears, and the pigmentation goes flat. It's as if that spot on the wall just died.
What is the cure. The cure is a pink liquid that is I believe is market under the name of ';Tite Bond'; it is sold wherever Plaster %26amp; Drywall Contractor's buy their equipment %26amp; supplies.. Look in the Business Yellow Pages for Plaster Supplier Outlets - Retail. THe liquid is PINK is color. As best as I can remember it is called ';Tite Bond';. Tell them you are looking for a bonding agent that you can apply by utility brush to an entire interior wall, (and give him the square foot dimensions of the room, (just tell him its an 8'-0'; high interior plaster wall.
Make sure you buy enough. Whike you are there find out what size containers the suff comes in. Gallon cans'; 5 gallon cans? What? Find out what you need - he can tell you. - and then see if you can buy extra, and if you have un opened containers - can you return them for a re-fund of your money???
I always do that - buy mnor that I thinlk I'm going to need and take the extra back, or keep it so I can do touch op - or repairs later.
Application: Buy a thow away paint roller pan, a paint roller and extension handle and two roller heads. Again, I'd find the guy in the paint department at Lowes, or your own Harware store who is the ';go to'; guy, and tell him you have some glue like stuff to spread on your walls at home to prep for painting - and waht does he recommend - since you want thr rolls to be smooth , - but you also need to be able to do the rool it on the wall thing while you are young. (I suggest you bring some of the tite bond with you so he can pour some of it out, and see the viscosity of the fluid he is going to be dealing with.
Prep %26amp; Application:
OK then, You now have your tools, and your product. Make sure you have proper ventilation, goggles, a tyveck body suit with hood %26amp; gloves, and boots. The room is emptied out of fruniture %26amp; misc. Drop cosths are all down. Doors, windows, trim, baseboard, hardware and light fixtires, and all light fictures and windows are taped off/. Light switches %26amp; outlets, (including TV %26amp; Telephone outlet covers are removed %26amp; taped shut.
Brush walls down with a bristl room, and wash walls with degreaser, walls should dry quickly..You should be ready to go.
Apply the Titie Bond. Go for uniform Coverage.
Tips: I prefer to do all the cut-in work first - then work seems to ';fly'; by the time I am down to the roll the ';big spots part.
I immediately do a 1st coat over areas that I know will get extra ';traffic'; like the area around the light switch, the outside corner in the room - etc - along with the cut-in work.
All done? Let her dry accoding to manufacturer's instructions and paint.
I think this will work for you just fine, If for some reason, this is too much work, re-post, and I can give you two or three other options. However, based On what I read into your question, this seemed the best way to proceed. Good luck.
I'm pulling for you.
seems like you have mixed paints oil %26amp; water base paints. is the house old like over 30 years old, because back then they used to use oil base paint. check it out. if paint has buble up in certain areas mostly that's the case. i would recomend to sand down the paint down to the dry wall and start all over again. good luck.
Use Kill Stain to prime
A clean wall is best to begin the painting process. Try washing the walls with a solution of Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) and HOT HOT water. This cleans the grease and other dirt off the wall, and makes it so much better to prime and paint.
The best primer I have ever used is Zinsser oil based primer. It sticks well, and is a great stain blocker. Any latex paint will adhere to it, and you get a nice, even finish. Fast drying time too!
Make sure you have some mineral spirits to wash your brush with. Just toss the roller when you're done!
try putting lining paper on the walls before you paint them.
You may have to use sandpaper on the previous paint in order for the primer to get a good roughed up surface to attach to.
The paint you apply is only as good as the surface to which it is applied. If you can peel off the existing paint after putting primer on it I suggest that you take a spay bottle and a six inch putty knife and spray an area and scrape it off, do the entire room like this of you will have problems and waste your time and material repainting over this bad surface. Once it is scraped off, let the walls dry and scuff sand them with a sponge block sander so its relatively smooth. Then use a decent quality flat or matte flat paint (you don't need primer, this will adhere to drywall just as well) and cut it in with a brush and roll it out with a roller on an extension pole (this is allot easier on your back).
Had this same problem. you need to strip (scrape, etc.) the old pain off. Otherwise, the new paint has nothing to grip onto.
Rough up the subsurface before repainting. Prime again with a ';gripper'; primer.

How can I easily and cheaply remove paint from wood cupboard doors?
What I was trying was a product called Klean-Strip After Wash, but its not doing very good, is expensive and uses alot for just one cupboard door. How can I easily and cheaply remove paint from wood cupboard doors?
Remove the doors (unscrew the hinges) and use a palm sander to sand the paint off. A palm sander costs around fifty dollars, but you can use it for other projects or re-sell it somewhere. If you have a lot of grooves you can still use paint stripper or try to get the paint out with pieces of sandpaper.

What distinguishes a Quarter Horse and a Paint besides color?
I found an article in an AQHA magazine about Quarter Horses with too much white on their body or in certain places. Also some paints can be double registered as a QH. So besides color is there anything else that distinguishes a Quarter Horse and a Paint?
Just a curious question =)
Thank you! What distinguishes a Quarter Horse and a Paint besides color?
Not really much of a difference from APHA horses and AQHA (but let's not get confused with pintos they are any horse with patches of white on their body! Almost any breed can occasionally produce a pinto, paints are usually the Registered ones that is how I tell the difference). Basically, sometime in the 1900 (I think around the 1960-1985ish) people started a registry for Paint horses that were out of either Thoroughbred or Quarter Horse bloodlines. I think that most of the APHA horses today are from the horses that were Quarter Horse, but didn't have the solid coloring of a Quarter Horse so their owners registered them with the APHA. Not sure though. Some Quarter Horse ranchers get upset when their AQHA broodmares produces a foal with white patches...think they are too flashy I guess! Anyhow, APHA horses can be double registered with AQHA as well in situations like the one I just described. Purebred QH mare bred to purebred QH stud produces paint foal and is double registered.
The difference between a QH and a Paint, is mostly color and the fact that some APHA horses are thoroughbreds. Myself, I don't believe that their is any difference at all between a APHA horse out of QH bloodlines other than color. I have realized over the years that they are just as intelligent and athletic as the Quarter Horse, just a bit more flashy. I actually prefer them to Quarter Horses (don't get me wrong I'm all about ridin' them,.. but I just LOOOVEE Paints).
By the way some Paints do get sunburn as well as some have light colored eyes that can be sensitive. But I heard that lots of cowboys used to ride them as cowponies.....What distinguishes a Quarter Horse and a Paint besides color?
Paints are mostly Quarter Horse, but some have a lot more Thoroughbred blood in them than Quarter Horses do. The APHA allows Thorougbred crosses. The APHA used to register Quarter Horses born with too much white as Paints. The AQHA changed their rules to allow horses with excessive white markings to be registered. If a registered Paint had two Quarter Horse parents it could then also be registered in the AQHA. The APHA then changed their rules so horse must have at least one Paint parent to be registered in the regular registry. A Quarter Horse now with excessive white can only be registered in the APHA as a Breeding stock. In my opinion the AQHA should register all solid paints and the APHA should register all horses with excessive white markings. It was believed, incorrectly, that the white in Paints came from draft crossings.
Their breeding, obviously.
Paints used to be considered colored Quarter Horses but in the west cowboys didn't like them because they got sunburn and the thought that dark legs were stronger or something, so they got separated and a new breed formed.
Now, that's just what I remember my old trainer telling me a while back, so I don't know how accurate I got it.
But that's why their conformation and temperament and all that is so similar.
no paint horses are pretty much quarter horses or thoroughbreds with extra white. I had a paint mare that blood type QH. Most of the big named paint horses were just cropped out QH's.
Not much. Most paints have got a good deal of quarter horse blood in them.bright makeup

What can I use to substitute Acrylic Paint?
I need white acrylic paint. I've been to 4 craft stores and none of them have white acrylic paint. I was thinking of what can I use to substitute acrylic paint. Have any idea? I am going to use it on a paper mache project. We are not allowed to use poster paint. What can I use to substitute Acrylic Paint?
Gesso will substitute for paint in this case, also white latex primer for house paint. Spray enamels won't allow you to use acrylic paint on top of them. What can I use to substitute Acrylic Paint?
That is very odd, I have never seen an arts and craft store without loads of acrylic paint of all colors. Try to go to any warehouse type store, to find the acrylic. (ie Walmart, Target) If not, I don't know how small the detail in white is going to be, but if it is just a background color grab a can of spray paint.
I agree with Joyfulpaints Gesso a good substitute
Acrylic paint is water based so try to use any house latex paint or any other water soluble paint, though other water soluble paints will not have the same covering power or mixing power as acrylic paint because of lower pigment amount.
I'd use white spray paint or enamel if tempera is not allowed. ';poster paint'; could mean anything...but your instructor probably means tempera

How do I convince my neighbor to paint his house?
It's a great old century home that, unfortunately, has become the eyesore of the neighborhood and is bringing down neighboring property values. I considered offering to help him scrape and paint his house this summer, but I don't want to seem intrusive. Any ideas on how to approach this? He's a nice guy, so I don't want to offend him.How do I convince my neighbor to paint his house?
I'd just bring it up..say hey have you ever thought about painting your house? I think it would really stand out nicely. How do I convince my neighbor to paint his house?
Offer to help but never bring up the issue of bringing down the property values. You'd seem like a money grubber. Could be he has health problems, financial problems or just overwhelmed by the prospect of doing the house.
Offer once. Don't push it. He might respond by never painting it just to get back at you or the neighborhood.
It is none of your business. You do not pay the mortgage, or the taxes. Keep to yourself!
Just tell him that his house is the eyesore of the neighborhood and it's bringing down the property values. I wish I owned the house. I'd spend extra money to make it look even worse because it's none of your business.
The first thing that you should do is check with your city or town hall for the rules and regulations about upkeep of property. There are regulations that most property owners have to adhere to.
If these are being broken by your neighbor not repainting his house, the city or town can force him to do so.
He may really want to have the house repainted, but may not have the funds or time to do so. Check with the town, see what they can do and then make your offer of helping him after you have pursued that avenue.
Good luck.
Get black ink and throw it on couple of his walls, tell him that you are sorry and you will help him painting it.
you could do some research to see the history of this house. tell him how great the house is from an arcitechual prospective, and how nice it would be to restore its exterior to its original paint. tell him that you can go to most paint stores and get historical colors that will suit his house, and some stores can analyze the paint to see what the original color was. you might tell him that you have a pressures washer, and you are willing to pressure wash his house , because you enjoy doing this. pressure washing will work , and it is less time consuming than scraping. even if u have to rent one . this may give him some encouragement to do his house. tell him if u want it will be worth more money, because century homes are in demand now . hope this helps good luck if he cant afford it, maybe you , or some neighbors , with his consent, can have a garage sale for the paint.
In the middle of the night, paint an erect phallus on the side of it in orange spray paint. I guarantee he'll paint it by the next weekend. Just don't get caught.
Have you ever put this to mind he or she can't afford to paint it. just a ask ? ash him what do you think it would cost to paint this house maybe every one on the block can pitch in and hepl them out and think about this they may need 2 to 3 colors to please your eye I bet it will cost from scrapping to sanding to repairing any bad wood too painting it about 4 to 8 thousand thats why it looks like that round up the block people and chip in maybe they don't have the money
I think you need to first consider why he doesn't keep up his house. Is it because he is lazy? Because he doesn't place the same value you do on having a visually appealing house? Because he is really busy with work or family obligations? Because he doesn't have the money to pay someone to paint it? Because he thinks he lacks the skills for the job? Before approaching him, I think you should consider his situation. I think it would be OK to tell him that you would be willing to help him if he ever needs your help with painting the house. Beyond that, remember that he has the freedom to keep his house as nice or as dumpy as he wants within reason.
Good luck.

How long does it take for spray paint to dry?
Just wondering, how long does it take for spray paint to dry? I'm in England and I'm talking about spray paint on wall not on any other surface. I don't know if humidity comes into the equasion? Cheers. How long does it take for spray paint to dry?
depending on the type of spray paint acrylic/metallic/ etc. the time varies. It should be listed on the label of the paint can and humidity always plays a part as does air flow (wind). Give it a good hour if you can.
If in question, do a spot test somewhere else unseen on a similar surface and touch test for the tackiness till you think you can safely touch it without smudging. most cans say 24 hours for total curing. layers will also affect it. the thicker, the longer it will take.. if at all ever.

How much should I get paid to paint a shed?

Is it wood or metal? A wood shed you can use solid latex stain (like a paint but much easier) a metal shed entails scraping rust/primimg/painting and oil is recommended. How much should I get paid to paint a shed?

What are some good color choices to paint the bedroom walls?
The furnishings are chocolate brown and gold. The carpet is currently a beige shade but that is going to be changing to a brown shade. What are some good color choices to paint the bedroom walls?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:
http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/
I think ';honeydew'; (# 6428) might be a good choice.
You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:
http://www.roomvues.com/
You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like. What are some good color choices to paint the bedroom walls?
I don't know if this will help (it's Australian) but you can play around with it and get some great colour combination and ideas for specific rooms of the house, You can change the colours of the furnishings also, you just click around and see what you come up with. Maybe your paint store could colour match the paints? It saves buying small sample paint pots.
http://www.mycolour.com.au/
We have dark furniture so we used a ';new'; white, which really isn't a white, but it is very neutral, so if I change the soft furnishings it's not going to matter.
Have fun painting!!!
I think khaki would be a great color or a bit darker than khaki, like a taupe. Martha Stewart has great colors and the color swatches have other colors (accent colors) that coordinate with the shade you choose.
It sounds like you have chosen relaxing colors.
For wall colors I'd suggest one of the following (depending on your personality):
Soft blue/turquoise
Soft lilac
Minty green
Soft yellow
Accent with the color you chose, as well as golds and bronzes to add ambiance to the room (cushions, pottery, etc) :)
See room pictures and inspiration on this site: http://www.roxxn.com
A few ideas.
Butter Cream, Sahara Sand, or a very light rose tint. The first will add light, the second is neutral, the rose, a warm look and feel.
a cream, lilac , Ivory, bluish gray, olive green or reddish Burgundy.
you want something that will stand out from your brown furnishings, but wont be super crazy
then any shade of white, tan, or a light blue, possibly. don't do any color too crazy that you'll regret later.
a brown or a cream colour i think would go nicebright makeup

If a can of exterior latex house paint has been left outside over the winter, is it ruined?
I forgot it under the porch all winter long, and just found it today. It's a nearly full gallon. Did I ruin the paint by leaving it out in the freezing cold all winter, or is it still usable? If a can of exterior latex house paint has been left outside over the winter, is it ruined?
Yes you should discard the paint. Once it freezes it changes chemically. Even if it looks OK it would be a risk to use it. As much trouble as painting is, you sure don't want to take the risk just to save a few dollars. Been there myself. I should know better since I have been a painter since the 1970's. forgot and left paint in my unheated garage all winter. If a can of exterior latex house paint has been left outside over the winter, is it ruined?
the only way to find out is to try it on a small test piece to see if it has seperated , you may well be lucky
I
paint is no longer any good after it freezes
toss it,once it freezes,its junk.

Can you mix pearl finish and semi gloss paint together?
I recently got a new room painted, and it seems to be kind of too dark. I have a extra gallon. The paint is Benjamin moore pearl finished paint. Can I mix this paint with a white semi gloss paint to make it lighter?
Or should I just buy a lighter color all together?
Thank you.Can you mix pearl finish and semi gloss paint together?
hey as long as they are both latex paint mix away!!!!Can you mix pearl finish and semi gloss paint together?
I'd say just buy a lighter shade. No telling if the 2 paints are compatable without additional data.
It is easier to make a paint darker but very tricky trying to make it lighter.
You can mix them as long as both are latexes..However as a 37 year experienced painter..let me tell you..the pearl finish of benjamin moore really sucks..it will not touch up properly if you ding the wall etc and will require painting the whole wall over again..Benjamin Moore adds a little oil based paint to thier latex paint ,which is called ';fortified';..and it is not user friendly, the coverage is poor, and clean up is rough on the tools....I stay completely away from Benjamin Moore and use Sherwin williams...I have had so many problems with benjamin Moore by them not matching the paint properly when more is needed..and the drying time as well.. I had some exterior shudders done with it that took 2 weeks to dry before I could re hang them..thier deep tone [paints especially..

How can I find out the name of paint colour for my car?
I have a Vauxhall corsa LS 3 dr hatchback, 973 cc petrol engine car. The colour is a kind of dark navy blue. How can I find the name of the colour so I can touch up some rust spots and some scratches in the bodywork?
ThankHow can I find out the name of paint colour for my car?
look on the vin plate
inside the bonnet or driver side door post
look for colour or cl maybe will be on a plate 3';by 2'; ish
if you post up the code ill tell you the colour to buy your touch upHow can I find out the name of paint colour for my car?
Your best bet it to take it to the dealers Autobody shop. They will have the ability to find all the stock colors there and mix you a small ammount of paint or order you a scratch cover up bottle.
call the dealership that you bought the car from and give them the VIN number
The paint code is on the sticker on the inside of your front drivers side door
http://www.expresspaint.com/helpful_tips鈥?/a>
Take your serial number to the car dealer. Here in the U.S., the serial number also has the paint code in it. If you have the original window sticker when the car was new, that's even better.
Either on your door frame, or under the hood, there is a paint code. The year and the paint code are all you need to match the paint, not the name of the paint.
There are several way to identify the colour. One at Halfords they have a paint chart that you can cross reference Vauxhall paint with.
The second and possibly better way is to find the paint code on the VIN plate under bonnet.
Ja.
Use this site for colour / namematches..
http://www.paints4u.com/
Because car paints fade or take up dirt over the years since manufacture, your best bet would be to take the car to somewhere that can colour-match paint for you.
I use a local one called autopaint international(in Bolton).
They can make up airosol cans of up to 1litre and as many as you need.
I find that the colour-matched paint looks better in daylight than the ones you get from a car parts shop.
And after a couple of weeks looks the same as the main colour of the car.
Go to a car spares shop and identify it by the colour charts next to the tins of touch up paints.
Alternately, try this:
http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/showth鈥?/a>
There should be a number for it on a tag under the bonnet somewhere. Otherwise you can track it down from the engine/registration number on your log book.

What paint color goes with cherry/cognac cabinets?
Preferably warm color. Paint name and brand please. Any idea is greatly appreciated! What paint color goes with cherry/cognac cabinets?
Since cherry cabinets are such a powerful (and great looking) choice of cabinets you really want to make them pop and stand out, but you don't want them to stand out so much they don't match the walls. But you don't want them to blend in with the walls so much people don't even take notice that they're there. I'd go with these colors:
Option #1: Flower Pot (At Sherwin-Williams)
Option #2: Refuge (At Sherwin-Williams)
Option #3: Garden Spot (At Sherwin-Willams)
Option #4: Mannered Gold (At Sherwin-Williams)
Option #5: French Roast (At Shewin-Williams)
Sorry there aren't any links, I used Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer. What paint color goes with cherry/cognac cabinets?
A sand color would look really nice. Glidden must be mixed by your paint service counter at your Local DIY store.
Here are several Sherwin Williams colors that would look good:
Empire Gold - 12
Totally Tan - 6115
Svelte Sage - 6164
Dried Thyme - 6186
Underseas - 6214
Good Luck!
You want to make the bold beautiful color of the cabinets to stand out, so go with a neutral/warm color on the walls. Home depot has a great selection-i like the Behr or Ralph Lauren color pallete

How do I get the shabby chic/distressed paint effect?
I love the shabby chic/distressed paint effect, but dont seem to be able to get it right. Any tips please? How do I get the shabby chic/distressed paint effect?
Here is a step by step guide to how HGTV's ';Color Splash'; distressed a cabinet:
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_faux_antique鈥?/a>
Here are heaps of other links for antiquing/distressing:
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_faux_antique鈥?/a>How do I get the shabby chic/distressed paint effect?
Use a fine grade sandpaper and rub the edges and corners of the piece of furniture. Then rub holes in the paint on the flat surfaces. Try to achieve an effect where it looks like the furniture has been well used over years, so add the bald patches where people might have repeatedly used the item.
after painting, lightly wipe over with a piece of rag
i did my walls a while back with different shades of the same colour, i put the first layer on with a roller, then scrunched up some sheets of news paper to put on the second layer, lastly i got a large bath sponge ripped bits off it randomly and did the last layer with that it looked quite good when finished.
At art school... we used to use chlorine. We'd just put it on a paint brush... drain off most of the stuff and then flick it gently across the clothes. Don't get carried away though... and it takes a while for it to kill the dye.
That worked really well on jeans... if you're trying to rip, then i recommend getting a stanley knife and patiently rub the blade parrallel to your waist line. ie.. going down the length.

For paint, what color goes good with olive green?
I'm painting my big bedroom with high ceilings olive green, but i want one wall to be another color.. the wall across from my bed, where it has a dresser and the tv. Any suggestions on what colors compliment olive green??For paint, what color goes good with olive green?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a color like ';inspired lilac'; (# 6820) would contrast the olive beautifully. For paint, what color goes good with olive green?
I would recommend you paint the wall khaki tan. It is the only color that compliments olive green. I was on the Sherwin William's paint site, and I was trying to coordinate a color with olive green, but didn't like how any other color looked. Good luck!
Go down to the paint store and look at greens that are
just a little lighter or darker you don't want to go to
far out of the olive color. What i would recommend is look around
and find somebody that may have something close to
what your looking for.
Paint it aqua. Olive and aqua are beautiful together. Besides a lot of curtains and bedspreads are aqua, sage, olive and soft gold. This color combination is very popular right now and I have it in one of my rooms and love it.
I have olive green couches and the accent colors I use for the rug, pillows, decorations etc, are a burnt orange (kinda terra cotta), buttery yellow, black, light brown, dark brown, gold, taupe and ivory
any natural tone, white, black, tan, brown...those kinds of colors. just take the color swatches (whatever they're called) and go down the row of colors in the store with the olive green one comparing it to all the others
You could try tan or brown to go with the olive green if you dont want to be too bold, but a medium to deep purple would really look amazing with the olive green. Good luck with your project :o)
off white or light tan. also a subtle pink/whitish shade. rose colored accents look good with it too (not for a whole wall though).

A nice rich almond ivory color., olive green is dark so this will put some light in the room.
Definitely gold.
i would stripe it with olive green and ivory and that could be your wall that would grab attention
deep red. tan. buttery yellow. i have olive walls in my home and have accented with reds and yellows.
a deep rich burgandy
Plum
a dark tan
tan or pale yellowbright makeup

How long does it take for latex floor paint to dry enough to walk on? 2 put furniture on?to put down area rug?
The floor we painted is wood. The first coat was applied two days ago and the surface is still sticky/tacky. We are going to apply the second coat today because the instructions on the paint container say that a second coat must be applired within 48 hours. How long does it take for latex floor paint to dry enough to walk on? 2 put furniture on?to put down area rug?
Might sound silly but I would wait a week. How long does it take for latex floor paint to dry enough to walk on? 2 put furniture on?to put down area rug?
It is hand of hard to say how long it will take. The weather is your biggest factor. If your first coat is still tacky after two day, that tells me that it is probably humid where you are. If you don't already, turn on some fans in the room. It should help in the drying proses.
How are you going to walk across a sticky/tacky floor to paint it without damaging the first coat?
You can tell when paint is fry by putting your hand on it. If it feels cold yet, it's not dry. Try this with a surface that's been painted before, and with paint you just put on an hour or two ago, and you'll feel a definite difference.
If I was going to put a rug down on top of a painted floor, I would be VERY SURE that the paint was very dry, or it'll stick to the floor.
I would guess you have high humidity in your home. That will slow the drying time. You may need to place fans to get the air circulating more.
Temperature and humidity are you too main factors in how fast it will dry. If your area is hot...close the A/C vent to that room...turn on ceiling fan if you have one or any fans you can put in there. If it's hot outside...open some windows. If it already cool or cold outside....turn up the heat and turn on more fans to help the floor dry. If your floor is still sticky or tacky...wait another day to put second coat on. As far as putting furniture on it...I would wait at least 2 days after it has lost that sticky/tacky feel. I would also wait another week before I put a rug down. If it has even the slightest amount of moisture in it...it will soften with that rug placed on top of it and stick to the bottom of the rug.

I want to stomp my ceiling. How much paint do I add to the sheet rock mud?
what is the ratio for sheet rock mud to paint when stomping a ceiling?I want to stomp my ceiling. How much paint do I add to the sheet rock mud?
one gallon of paint to 5 gallons of mud...
we own a remodeling company..,,this is how we do it..and it works greatI want to stomp my ceiling. How much paint do I add to the sheet rock mud?
I've been in the trades for many years and just researched the term, ';STOMP';.
I'd never ';texture'; a ceiling primarily because it only adds effort at some point after the fact. I include a link below on how to remove that.
I have to say however, that MUD is already designed in a specific consistency for its purpose. Anything added will dilute it, and cause it to dry at a slower rate, possibly drip, or sag, and likely be more of a mess in applying,,,especially on a ceiling.
Rev. Steven
Depends on what color you want to achieve. We do that this summer and painted the wall white.. we mixed the mud in a 5 gal bucket and put about 3 gal of mud and 1/2 a gal of white paint.. We used a hopper though. I'm not sure if the consistency would be right for doing a ceiling. I would play with it until you get the color and consistency you want.

How do I prep an aluminum door for paint?
It is down to bare metal in one spot by the handle. How do I prep an aluminum door for paint?
I've heard you wash the metal with viniger first then paint it.How do I prep an aluminum door for paint?
The problem may arise in touching up the white paint as there are various shades of white.
The best way to prep though is to rub down the area where the paint is flaking with a fairly course paper, such as 40 or 60 grade, then finish off sanding with a fine 'wet and dry' sandpaper. This will get rid of any abrasions caused by the rougher paper.
Prime the bare area with an aluminium primer. Re-rub down with 'wet and dry' before painting top coats.

How much per foot should i charge to paint a house?
my landlord is paying us to paint our house and wants me to come up with a price. i have no idea how much to charge her. the living room alone is 16 1/2 feet long x 8 1/4 feet tall x 9 1/2 feet wide. can someone plzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me. i need to know how much per sq ft.How much per foot should i charge to paint a house?
I'm sorry to disagree with Diva, but painters do charge by the square foot. You can confirm this by flipping through a construction estimate book at Home Depot.
I charge $0.75 per square foot for one coat and $0.50 per square foot for a second coat.
In your calculation, you do not exclude windows or doors as cutting in around windows requires time as well.
This is for labor only, not materials.
Don't forget to charge for the ceilings if you are going to paint the ceilings! How much per foot should i charge to paint a house?
If you want to find out how meany sq meters there are on your walls, you have to multiply the length by the height then you get the total sq meters of your room. Now you measure the windows length by the height, then multiply it. Once you have do that you will come up with the window total then you subtract how ever much the windows came to from the room total. Then that should be how meany sq meters there are in your room.
It depends on many things, like who is buying the materials, how difficult is the job and how much is your time worth.
I'm a self employed handyman. For painting I figure my time is worth $15 per hour. I can roll 500 sq. feet of walls or ceiling in an hour, and that uses just over a gallon of paint. The real time consuming parts of painting are moving furniture, masking trim, cutting(brushing) around doors, windows, corners, ceilings and all that. As a rough guide, I would figure on an average of $125 to $150 per room, if you are supplying the paint and tools, and using light or neutral colors over similar colors. Painting over dark colors, or painting in a dark color requires more coats of paint and primer. Add extra if there is patching or repairing walls needed. Smaller rooms will offset larger rooms.
You also need to consider whether or not you are painting the trim. Trim painting is time consuming. But if you have stained/finished wood trim, you won't be painting it.
Most paint covers 400 to 450 Sq feet per gallon. To calculate the Sq footage measure length and height of each wall and multiply, then subtract the openings like windows and doors. I like Behr paint from Home Depot. It covers nicely, doesn't spatter when you roll it on and is highly rated for value and durability. I bought 2 gallons today for my living room. I paid $23.98 per gallon for interior satin. As a comparison, Sherwin Williams is about $34.95 for similar paint and it spatters all over like crazy.
Painters don't charge by foot.... they charge by the hour. Usually, between 14 and 20 an hour..... They don't charge by square footing, as sometimes you must put primer, then two and sometimes 3 coats and even more. If you charge by square foot, you'll lose out. Do it the way real painters do it.... by the hour!
I am a painting contractor and I do indeed charge by the sq. ft. the going rate for two coats in my geogeaphic area is.approx $1.40 sq.ft....labor cost only ...materials extra.

Can you spackle holes if you do not plan to paint?
I recently moved into a home and took down a rack that the previous owners had up. Now there are 4 big holes in the wall. I was not planning to paint in that area, so I was wondering if I can just fill the holes up with spackle? Will I need to do anything else so that the holes are not visible? Thank you!Can you spackle holes if you do not plan to paint?
It depends on how big the holes are. If they are just holes from nails or anchors, yes, you can spackle them. But, unless your walls are white, it's going to show. You could put something like a shelf or painting up to cover it but that's about it. If the holes are very large you're probably going to want to invest in a kit to repair your wall. In either case, without painting, the spackle will show. Can you spackle holes if you do not plan to paint?
If the walls are white or off white, the spackle may be a pretty close match. It won't be perfect. But it may be one of those ';live with'; things, until you get around to painting that room.
Certainly it will look better than leaving the holes unfilled.
Just hang a picture or two!
Depends on the size of the holes, and on the color of the wall. White spackle will look OK on a white wall.
If the holes are small, just use the feather light foam spackle, because real spackle will sag as it dries.
You can just spackle, but the repair will be visible without primer and paint. Good luck!
You can, but it will not be properly finishedbright makeup

How do I change my background to NOTHING in Paint Shop Pro?
I really need to know how
because I wanna make a dotted border
and the tutorial
that I learned it from said i had to change the background to transparent.
Ok so,
like how do I do that?!
Please help! How do I change my background to NOTHING in Paint Shop Pro?
You need to promote the background ';layer'; to a proper layer. Then delete the background to get transparency.
Make sure to save it as a GIF or a TIFF because jpg's can't support transparencies. How do I change my background to NOTHING in Paint Shop Pro?
If there is a background promote background to layer, then click the background (if solid) with the magic wand and hit the delete key on your keyboard. An alternative is to use the lasso (freehand selection) and in the selection type choose Smart Edge or Edge seeker with a small feather (5 is usually best) and go around what you want to cut out, it takes practice but gives a great result. Save as PNG to keep the background transparent (file, export, png optimizer, settings as 16.7mil colors, alpha channel transparency, existing, non-interlaced)
If you are starting the tutorial by making a new image, go to file, then new, and select the raster background choice. It will be transparent.
WHEN YOU OPEN A NEW BLANK IMAGE. CLICKING ON THE ICON THAT LOOKS LIKE A SHEET OF PAPER. IN THE BOX THAT OPENS UP THERE IS A BOX TO CHECK FOR TRANSPARENT.

What is the difference between acrylic and watercolour tube paint?
I normally use acrylic, I tend to buy the sets with the little tubes in. However, somebody recently bought me some watercolour paints (also in little tubes, like acrylic) and I'm not sure what the difference is! Do I have to add water to the palette before using them? Help! What is the difference between acrylic and watercolour tube paint?
With all due respect to other answers, here is the difference: Watercolor paint uses a binder (what holds the pigments together) which is water soluble and can be re-suspended by re-wetting when dry by water.
In other words, not water proof.
Acrylic paint uses a synthetic plastic binder which once dry can not be re-suspended.
Water color techniques can be used with acrylics to a limited extent, but usually oil painting techniques are used.
Most artist grade watercolors do come in tubes but some brands also have blocks as well. What is the difference between acrylic and watercolour tube paint?
Hi,
Watercolors come in two different formats: either in little tubes like acrylics, as you rightly say, or in ';pans'; ( this is when they are solid ). There is no difference in the quality of the paint.
Artists use them indifferently. It is just a matter of habit and personal likings.
You use the solid ones by taking some clean water in your brush and then gently passing it over the color in the pan.
Do not rub hard. It should be more like a caress.
Make sure you do not flood the pan with water.
To understand the difference between watercolors and acrylics, you have to know and understand the chemical composition of the colors.
Paints comprise four principal ingredients:
!- colorant, commonly pigment.
2- binder, the substance that holds the pigment in suspension and fixes the pigment to the painting surface;
3 -additives, substances that alter the viscosity, hiding, durability or color of the pigment and vehicle mixture; and
4- solvent, the substance used to thin or dilute the paint for application and that evaporates when the paint hardens or dries.
Originally (16th to 18th centuries) watercolor binders were sugars and/or hide glues, but since the 19th century the preferred binder is natural gum arabic, with glycerin and/or honey as additives to improve plasticity and dissolvability of the binder, and with other chemicals added to improve product shelf life.
In acrylic paint the pigment is suspended in an acrylic polymer emulsion. This kind of paints were first manufactured in the 1950s, then arrived on the market in the 1960.
Basically, they have nothing organic in them. They are all plastic.
This is in no way meant disparagingly. Acrylics can be used with beautiful results.
Enjoy your new watercolors and good luck with your painting!
Two very different media. Yes use water with watercolor, you can vary the intensity of the pigment (';washes';) build layers of color (allow color to dry then reapply more), wet on wet, lots of differences.

Can you paint baseboards without removing them?
Our white baseboards %26amp; trim are chipped and yellowed--very much in need of a paint job! Can I repaint them without removing them from the walls? In a carpeted room? How?Can you paint baseboards without removing them?
we repainted every basebaord in our house carpet or no carpet!! if we can do then you most likly could to!!!
ok step one become friends with painters tape
put the tape at the edge of the carpet - this is a very important step. push the tape down on the carpet so you can see the seem then put tape on the walls above the baseboards and next to the trim
step two - paint with a paint brush DO NOT USE A ROLLOR THEY DO NOT WORK WHAT SO EVER!! uuummm as far as paint brush size use one a little smaller than your trim
step 3 - get busy painting
step 4 - carefully and slowly pull the tape awayCan you paint baseboards without removing them?
I just take a brush and paint them, but I am a 37 year experienced painter..I use no tape or cardboard which gives you false confidence..when the paint rolls off of the edges of it onto the carpet..especially if you slide it... I suggest getting a good 2 inch sash tool(brush) and use a steady hand..Blue tape on the carpet will cuase problems too..You can use it on the wall part if you crae..but I have no need to..
yes. First, sand the baseboard lightly.
Then, get a hard flat surface, either a thick cardboard or something like that. A strip of plastic - something firm enough. Make sure it is a bit long.
Then, hold it on the ground and push it up against the baseboard trying to get under the baseboard. Paint it while you are holding the carpet down that way. It is a slow process - you need to hold the board down till the paint is a bit dry but it is worth it.
At the paint store you can get an edging tool that keeps your brush off the carpet. Stick with a similar color, though, to minimize the appearance of any areas you can't reach. Use a dropcloth and clean edge frequently.

Like you stated. If you take it to a professional they can paint it what ever color you want it with no problems. As far as price. Of course it varies with color, quality of the paint, etc. Black is the cheapest color. With that said, a professional job needing no bodywork would probably cost you about $3,000.bright makeup

What do i need to do before i can paint over a finished wood night stand?
i have a small wood night stand with a medium color finish on it that i want to paint black. will sanding and a primer be enough to let me paint over it? also, what kind of paint would i need? is there a special furniture paint? What do i need to do before i can paint over a finished wood night stand?
I WOULD THINK THAT SANDING AND PRIMER WOULD BE ENOUGH, BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO GET A GOOD ENAMEL PAINT OR GOOD FURNITURE PAINT. THE MAN AT THE PAINT STORE CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED AND WHAT COLOR WILL BE PERFECT FOR YOU TO USE, OR RATHER WHAT SHADE IN THE COLOR YOU CHOSE. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING A FINE JOB.What do i need to do before i can paint over a finished wood night stand?
Sanding and priming will be enough. You don't need special paint - you can use regular black paint for walls. The only exception would be is if you decided you wanted to stain it black which is a lot more work. I'd go for a semi-gloss black indoor house paint.
sanding's really not that necessary unless you know for certain it 's necessary

Does anyone know an effective way to remove spray paint from a glass patio table?
It is a partially textured glass patio table that some Einstein decided to spray paint. I got it for free and I am trying to remove all the paint to just have a clear glass table top again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!Does anyone know an effective way to remove spray paint from a glass patio table?
Go to the local auto parts store. Buy a quart of Acetone from the spray paint section. They sell it in gallons but you'll only need a quart.
Assure there are no sources of ignition nearby (this is best done outdoors in no wind as acetone evaporates quickly) apply some of the acetone to a rag (make it drippy wet) and rub the spray paint off with it. Spray paint will wipe right off with acetone.
Additionally, you are able to use a tooth brush or other non-metal brush to loosen paint from creases in the glass.
Wipe off and clean up with household cleaner or window cleaner and you're in business.
Try not to hang out too long breathing acetone... extended exposure is not good for you.Does anyone know an effective way to remove spray paint from a glass patio table?
Try lowe's or home depot and look in the paint sectioin for spray paint remover. I used to work there and that helped a lot of people. Or even try asking someone who works there for their suggestions
Hmm...textured...I'm thinking water and very fine steel wool. Try a tiny section first.
paint dept. they sell a product called Goof Off ....works good at removing spray paint

What would be the BEST wax to treat BLACK paint in automobiles?
Black cars are just elegant and beautiful but anything can just put a scratch in the black paint and it shows. I usually use KIT carnauba its good and I just tried that new ICE wax but I really didn't like very much. What can be recommended? What would be the BEST wax to treat BLACK paint in automobiles?
When I was in college, I worked as a car detailer at some dealerships in the area. Car Brite has a wax and polishing system available. However if you are not able to get these products, then I would try Zymol. I am told that this is the products that Lamborghini recommends on their vehicles. I have never used it. No matter what you use, be sure to use the wax to protect the clearcoat last then use the polish to brighten the clearcoat first. If you have ';spider web'; like scratches on the finish, you can use a light cut type of buffing compound to take them out. If that doesn't do then try a heavier compound until you get the results you are looking for. What would be the BEST wax to treat BLACK paint in automobiles?
Thank you. Zymol is a very good product. Like I said though, Car Brite and Malco are professional grade products. They will be more pricey. But you get what you pay for. Good luck.

I agree there is nothing better for black than VaporWax.

What is the average price for a car paint job?
i have a pontiac grand am 1996 and i am thinking about getting it painted how much will that cost? I live in NH if that matters. i want it one color. i want decent paint job. What is the average price for a car paint job?
I was say be prepared to spend $1500 - $2000 for a decent job. You can easily reduce these costs by doing some of the work yourself, if you sand and primer your car yourself you could save yourself alot of lab-our.

What paint should I use on a vehicle?
I'm painting a graphic and lettering on a delivery truck. I've created a stencil but I don't know what type of paint I should use. The truck already has a simple white finish. I don't want a spray paint as there will be some hand detailing involved. This graphic needs to last a long time without cracking or fading. What paint should I use on a vehicle?
Instead of paint, have everything done in vinyl. The cost is comparable, and if you want to change logos or sell the truck it is much easier to remove. Almost all big trucks on the road now have vinyl lettering. What paint should I use on a vehicle?
As what I know, usually use ';Car Paint';, you can get all kind of color in Car paint Store.
Another way, make it as a sticker, after taping on the car.
Spray ';clear coat';-car using one(with hardner) on top of it(actually the whole car.)
Then the sticker won't fall out.
Duplicolor. they sell it in the parts store and it should be compatible with the clear coat sprays. some of the clear coat sprays are not very friendly to spray can paints.
scuff they area to be painted till there is no shine left then prime it,then after the primer dries sand it good then paint it red or black red will stand out good on white.

I had some exterior shudders done with it that took 2 weeks to dry before I could re hang them..thier deep tone [paints especially..bright makeup

How can I get the smell of paint (even though it's dry) out of my apartment?
Also how bad is this for my health? fumes? and I'm not particularily sensitive in my nose. So it must be really bad right? It's been roughly a month since it was painted. These are the things I have already tried ; I have tried Vinegar in open containers, Vinegar poured on white bread, Lighting Candles, leaving the windows open for 2 straight days, ';Smells Begone'; odor absorber. Thanks so much for any help...How can I get the smell of paint (even though it's dry) out of my apartment?
sounds like you have already done everything you can... just be patient, or make a note of the brand and type of paint and do not buy it next time!
There are low-smell paints available. How can I get the smell of paint (even though it's dry) out of my apartment?
You need to leave two windows open at all times until the smell disappears in about two weeks or so. One window on the east side and one window on the west side to provide for an in/out breeze to sweep through the apartment all the time...
You can also think about purchasing an air purifier, such as the one sold by sharper image.....
Well you're doing the right things, when I painted I just made sure that I left the windows open as constantly as I could, spray airfreshener every once in awhile etc. It should be getting better if its been a month already.
you can open all the windows in u'r apartment that's how mine got out but mine was a house.
get an Ionic breeze thing
open a window, put some fans on...just curculate the air in your apartment as much as possible.
Get some spray the smell good or one of does candles the smell good :) and yea let your windows open.
Open a window and let it air out
Go and get the cheapest CLEAR vanilla extract that you can find. Dilute the vanilla with water in a spray bottle and spray around.
i like the smell of fresh paint. if its latex, theres no fumes to worry about. oil based ,i cant say for sure
There shouldn't be an odor lasting that long.
I would cross ventilate for 3 days or so and see if it improves.
It takes time. the most important thing is that you have ventilation so the fumes can leave. Until the covering it up is all you can do. But give it a week or so and you'll barely notice it.
Febreeze It!!!
Try putting fans around the house pointing towards the windows while there open .

How can I get free artist paint brushes for free?
I have been looking on the web but have not found any sites that offers free paint brushes. It's bothering me. I need paint brushes by tomorrow! How can I get free artist paint brushes for free?
at this point go to walmart, most are open 24hrs... oh, you need money for that... oh, and they will be really bad quality. How can I get free artist paint brushes for free?
well if your that desperate, you can make one using your own hair...other artsit prefer it.....shhh!!!!!!!....just a secret.......
Well, Honey, I have never known of a source for free artists' paint brushes...seems you have left this up to the last moment.
You could have gone to second hand supply stores to obtain the brushes, or contacted college/university art depts., but you're sort of out of luck now.
Well if you want good Artist brushes then you need to buy them out of a shop.
Well, I may be too late but your best bet will be the one and two dollar stores. Not free but a dollar is as cheap as it gets.
You could always try bartering for your artwork next time at an art supply shop .
uh there free dude.
A) Nothing's free.
B) If you could find some brushes for free, they would be of TERRIBLE quality, and the hairs would fall out.
go buy some.
If you have makeup brushes, these work. Also just regular paint brushes that you would paint a wall with. Look in the utensil drawer in the kitchen. Basting brushes work. There are many things around the house. Just use your imagination a wee bit. and good luck. I have been known to procrastinate too.
The local town or city dump. Start looking and have fun!

What is the best way to paint a car at home?
I am getting it professionally painted in 2 weeks. But the problem is im going to need to drive it before that a little bit. But the exterior paint is donefor.
Is there anyway that i can paint it at my house.
ex. what kind of paint, how many stages, taping, things to know, etc.
I am willing to pay 200 max for supplies.
It is a 4dr sedan and im painting it black. What is the best way to paint a car at home?
If your going to get it painted in 2 weeks don't do any thing to it except wax it if you think its going to rust or something,
The stuff you put on it could make it a bigger job for your paint person.
It will take you 2 weeks to make it look ok even with the right stuff. What is the best way to paint a car at home?
Your best bet is to take it to Earl Shibe or another co. such as Maaco that charges about $250.00. If you are going to do this in a garage, you have the dust element to deal with as well as the drying time. and not to mention a lot of work and your time spent to do a novice paint job. Let thprofessionalsls do it and they heat cure the paint as well. It would still be better for a cheap job than what you would do.
You would need aair compressoror, a paint gun, cheese cloth, sand paper and a n electric hand sander, Polyurethane primer / paint , thinner, paper, tape and be able to apply the paint without runs or orange peel effectCheckek out this link if you are still adamant about doing it your self.

What is the best way to paint wrought iron railings? Brush or spray?
I';m changing colors, so I think I will need to use a DTM primer as well. What is the best way to paint wrought iron railings? Brush or spray?
Depends on how much you have to paint? I painted for a few years and had a private tennis court to paint, let me tell you I learned. Tried the brush was way to slow, tried spraying and to much over spray, waste. I found that they have gloves that you put on your hands and stick right in the paint and use your hands gets in corners and not much waste. That was my last experience at something like that!!Good Luck ~:()xWhat is the best way to paint wrought iron railings? Brush or spray?
I allways use spray paint.. Its easier. Try stripping the old paint first though and apply a coat of primer then paint.
For the primer, a brush coat would be effective, dabbing it in cranies that spray might only cover lightly, but for the cover coat, I've found spray not just the easiest but the best way to cover wrought iron; although 2 coats might be required, waiting for the initial coat to dry. Use painter's tape and newspaper to mask anything you don't want to get paint on it first.
spray... u wont haf to deal w/ paint marks... like those strokes u know? n its fun too...
You probably only need to do numbers 3-5 unless you have rust.
1. Rub the rusted sections with kerosene, and scour with fine-grade steel wool until you reach bare metal. For persistent spots, reapply the kerosene and leave it on long enough to loosen the rust.
2. Sand the edges of the bare spots to make a smooth transition between them and the surrounding painted sections.
3. Rinse the piece to remove all dust, and wipe it with an absorbent towel. Let the piece sit until it's thoroughly dry.
4. Spray with a rust-inhibiting primer, according to the product's instructions. Follow with a rust-resistant spray paint.
5. Allow the paint to dry for a day or two. Then, using a soft cloth, rub the piece of furniture with car wax.
Overall Tips:
Once a year, wipe down iron with white vinegar (no need to rinse) and follow with a coat of car wax.
Brush, if you're a painter. Spray if you're not.
Good paint w/good brush will smooth out, leaving no brush strokes.
A brush will deffinitely be harder and may leave un-natural looking brush marks. Try a spray and then a clearcoat over that.
what do you mean by best?
Best result or easiest method?
Easiest method is a weenie roller and it yeilds excellent results
Don't use an airless sprayer unless you get a little help ...form someone who knows

How much spray paint should i buy if i want to start to learn how to graffiti?
how many cans of wut ever colors u think and how much u think it will cost? How much spray paint should i buy if i want to start to learn how to graffiti?
Let it spray! There is no clear answer as to how much, however, every artist wants to feel free to express their work as desired. Therefore, I would suggest not only including the primary colors, but also the more bold colors such as : orange, purple, hot pink, lime green. flourescent yellow. Also do NOT be afraid to use black! Throw out rules! They are only to be broken anyways. ';there are no rules in art';. :) The black is often used in graffiti to outline and accentuate. The beauty of graffiti lies, in my opinion, in it's purist form. What I mean is, do not try to capture realism, but rather paint as you feel and as you see the ';vision'; in your mind. Sometimes graffiti is considered outsider art, BUT do not let that arbitrary description influence you. Art is art! Good luck in your work. Be bold, be creative, courageous and most of all have fun! Oh, and feel free to use the least expensive paint, such as Walmart cans, that I think can be bought as low as 99 cents.
Life is short, art is long. :) Oh and ONE more thing....as a mom, I must also caution that when using spray paints, especially in a more enclosed area, you should wear a mask and try to ventilate. Pcog (the wise chemist) adds: spray paint sometimes contains toluene, which is carcinogenic. So use caution! :)How much spray paint should i buy if i want to start to learn how to graffiti?
i write and i usually go threw like 1 can wen i do a fill then i use a little bit of my outline can that includes a shadow if u have a 6 letter name i would suggest gettin 4 fill in colors(the same color) to make the fill in look good and 2 outline colors and another color to double outline
Graffiti is not very pleasant on the eye.
Please don't buy ANY spray paint as it means that someone, who cares about the way the city you live in looks, will have to clean up your mess. Try something like watercolours or just normal acrylics and paint on a piece of paper or a canvas. Rather be constructively creative.
Leave the walls alone!
it depends if you already know what you're going to draw..if you do pick out the best colors but get only a few.. if you dont know what you are going to draw then i suggest you get big cans so if you start getting ideas you can do it again one black and any other two or three colors of your choice
First buy your wall.
Graffiti is UGLY and offensive and I'm sure you would not appreciate someone's inane scribbles on the side of your home

What type of paint can i mix with clear silicone?
The clear silicone that smells like paint, can i mix it with what kind o paint without ';drying'; the silicone. What type of paint can i mix with clear silicone?
Red devil makes a product called Create-a-Color caulk. You mix paint into it, then caulk. The stuff is great. I don't know how you would do it with any other kind of caulk. You can paint over the caulk you are talking about though (acrylic latex with silicone). Dap calls theirs Alex Plus. Hope this helps.

What color to paint walls when floor is green laminate?
Help me decide what color to paint the bathroom walls in my parents home. The flooring is patterned laminate in that 70's avocado-green color! Changing the laminate is NOT an option for them, unfortunately, so I'm going to have to work with that color. Any suggestions? And oh, I am not looking for anything fancy... just a simple semi-gloss wall paint... in a color that will compliment the flooring color.
ThanksWhat color to paint walls when floor is green laminate?
a very very pale mint or apple green with white accessories... or white walls and pale green towels... you could go ivory or cream too, but with the green floor you're pretty stuck as there aren't many colours to match with it
hope it looks great when you're done xxWhat color to paint walls when floor is green laminate?
Paint the walls white or off-white and use accessories to add the color. They have such beautiful shower curtains, garbage cans, soap dishes, etc. in stores now that if you spent the money on these things, I think you would have a very nice end product.
i would go with white; if not maybe a very pale yellow or green.
You know, you could paint the floor.
1- Apply a bonding primer so the paint will stick to the smooth surface of the floor.
2- Paint with an acrylic or latex paint
3- Top with 2-3 coats of marine grade sealant.
First paint it a lighter color then use a sponge or any other tool to apply a darker paint in a tile pattern. You can even sponge on a coupleof different tones of a color to make it look more like a real tile. The first lighter coat makes your grout lines between your tiles.

You can literally spend hours:
http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_鈥?/a>
I think a color like ';inspired lilac'; (# 6820) would contrast the olive beautifully.
Good luck with your project :o)
off white or light tan. also a subtle pink/whitish shade. rose colored accents look good with it too (not for a whole wall though).
burnt orange to the browner side http://img.hgtv.com/HGTV/2007/04/05/HCLR鈥?/a>
A nice rich almond ivory color., olive green is dark so this will put some light in the room.
Definitely gold.
i would stripe it with olive green and ivory and that could be your wall that would grab attention
deep red. tan. buttery yellow. i have olive walls in my home and have accented with reds and yellows.
a deep rich burgandy
Plum
a dark tan
tan or pale yellow

How long does it take for latex floor paint to dry enough to walk on? 2 put furniture on?to put down area rug?
The floor we painted is wood. The first coat was applied two days ago and the surface is still sticky/tacky. We are going to apply the second coat today because the instructions on the paint container say that a second coat must be applired within 48 hours. How long does it take for latex floor paint to dry enough to walk on? 2 put furniture on?to put down area rug?

Home depot has a great selection-i like the Behr or Ralph Lauren color pallete

i did my walls a while back with different shades of the same colour, i put the first layer on with a roller, then scrunched up some sheets of news paper to put on the second layer, lastly i got a large bath sponge ripped bits off it randomly and did the last layer with that it looked quite good when finished.

Good luck with your project :o)
off white or light tan. also a subtle pink/whitish shade. rose colored accents look good with it too (not for a whole wall though).
burnt orange to the browner side http://img.hgtv.com/HGTV/2007/04/05/HCLR鈥?/a>
A nice rich almond ivory color., olive green is dark so this will put some light in the room.
