How to cover wood wall paneling without paint?

My husband and I are about to move into a rent house. It's a very nice home but it was built back in the 70's. The whole house is paneling, but our landlord said we would not be able to paint...

I am needing suggestions on how to cover the walls or draw attention away from the outdated paneling...

Inexpensive ideas would be awesome!

Thanks! How to cover wood wall paneling without paint?
That's a tough one....if you can't paint, you sure can't glue anything to the walls either. Another poster suggested hanging fabric against the walls with the wire, eyes and turnbuckle system of hanging, and hope your landlord won't freak out over a few tiny holes high up in the wall. I like that idea too, it would be good for at least one wall in the livingroom, and could look fabulous in a dining room. You might also try to find a few cheap Japanese style screens, or if someone's handy you could build very light ones with your choice of fabric. Another approach, which I used once in a dreadful bathroom with green fixtures which I couldn't afford to replace, is to use the 'if you can't beat them, join them' idea. You've got a 70's style place, so look for a few things that will play that up and make it a feature instead of trying to hide it. It may not be your style but you can't entirely get rid of it so you might as well go with it.How to cover wood wall paneling without paint?
paper bags and some kind of puzzle glue, (a realy water based glue)

what you do is rip the bags into pieces (like random pieces the size of a mouse pad ...), coat the side with the ink and lettering on it, and glue it up, dont try to fit the pieces of paper like a puzzle, over lap them alot and cover the whole wall, it looks really, contemporary...

idk, i think with the water based glue it should come off easy.., mabey test it first.
My grandmother, back in the days when she was in a refugee camp, used cheap fabric and a glue made out of flour and water to cover the walls. she just stuck it on like wallpaper. You can get fabric really cheaply at walmart. I would probably not use the flour and water combo for hygenic reasons, but a watered down white glue should work well. As long as it dries clear.
You could string up a curtain, IKEA has a system that is like a wire and hooks, it would be close to the wall, and you could take it with you when you move.
