i have a mitsubishi mirage 2000 de sedan, 4 door. my bumper and its reinforcement are being replaced. i'm doing them by myself. how should i paint the bumper? should i place something before painting? How do you paint a bumper of a car or any part in general?
Unless you have an air compressor and a decent spray gun, it will not look good nor hold up. But if you do have the equipment, prep work is the key to any paint job. The bumper, whether new or used, will have to be thoroughly cleaned before any sanding. Then it will depend on the paint brand you are going to use as to what grit to use. Then your clear coat will have to have flex agent in it so the paint can resist small impacts.
Now, you can buy all of these products and do it yourself, but they are not sold in any smaller amounts than gallons. And a gallon of good clear runs around 300$. So by the time your done, the cost of you doing it will probably run close to 600$ verses taking the bumper to a body shop and having them paint it for around 300$. You can still install it, just let a professional refinish it.
